5 x 7 Kodak safety negative photographed by Rosenfeld and Sons on June 16, 1930. Image of 130' Herreshoff designed, George Lawley & Son, Corp. built J class sloop WHIRLWIND (built 1930 in S. Boston, Mass.) undersail. Visible in image: zoomed in port beam view of the J Class sloop WHIRLWIND on a starboard close-hauled tack under mainsail, staysail and jib heeled rail-down, crew is lying on high side. WHIRLWIND was launched as a potential America's Cup defender. Handwritten on original negative sleeve: "6/16 / Whirlwind / Box 2824" and stamped: "39929F".
