DESCRIPTION SITE :

This painting I describe as an 'over-mantle picture' which, due to it's unusual width, is ideally place above a fireplace.

Using a panoramic view gives me scope for placing of individual craft well apart so as to emphasize the expanse of the sea. The curious craft on the far left is a Lightship used, on this occasion, as a marker for the race course.

The Lightship is dressed overall with New York Yacht Club members flags. In this scene, the two yachts are rounding the Lightship are closely followed by the spectator fleet. Puritan is leading Genesta.
