Document No 2093: America's Cup champion 'Vigilant' (Herreshoff, 1893) racing in 1894 in Cowes. | |||||||||||||||
REF : 0 EDITION : 1893 DATE : 04 Aug 1894 COURSE : 9 DESCRIPTION SITE : Classic Racing Yacht, Cowes, Isle of Wight. This is about all I can work out on this one. The gaff rig suggests it isn't a J Class, perhaps a 'Big Class'? It is a very elegant vessel and must be from the same era.. Anyone? Shame the print is in such poor condition, I suspect it was a home printing job, judging by the thumb prints all over it! Bottom RH corner is embossed 'West and Son, Southsea'. I'm guess a vessel has just disappeared stage left. NOTES AMERICA-SCOOP :LICENCE : Public domain |
