Showed the Way to the Prince of Wales's Cutter Over a Forty-eight-Mile Course, Winning by Four Minutes and Twenty-nine Seconds -- Just the Kind of Weather for the Yankee Boat -- A Multitude of Sightseers.

COWES, Aug. 4 - The Vigilant handsomely retrieved her reputation to-day in a splendid tussle for a prize of $500 over the course of the Royal Yacht Squadron. She beat the Prince of Wales's cutter, the Britannia, in a brisk breeze that held almost true from start to finish, over a course of forty-eight nautical miles, a third of which was in the open water of the English Channel.
