It is often difficult to realize the sheer enormity of some of the yachts that Jackson photographed. This image is of the 118-foot Vanitie, winner of the Cleopatra's Barge Cup in 1926. By framing her in a vertical format, with the huge mast at a diagonal, seemingly ready to pierce the frame, he emphasized Vanitie's size.

Vanitie Designed by William Gardner & Co. | Built by George F. Lawley & Son, S. Boston, 1914 | 118_ Length overall, 75_ Length waterline | Owned by Gerard B. Lambert
