DESCRIPTION SITE :

The second race was sailed October 9th, in a fairly smooth sea and a strong breeze, varying from eight to ten knots at the start to nearly thirty at the finish, a "smoky sou'wester," an excellent wind off Sandy Hook. The course was triangular, thirty miles, from Sandy Hook light-vessel, the first leg being to windward, S. W. by S., the second E. 1/2 S., and the third N. N. W. 1/2 W., the last two affording broad reaches.

NOTES AMERICA-SCOOP :

Vigilant's gain on the first leg was 4 m. 45 s., on the second 4 m. 12 s., and on the third 3 m. 26 s.
