Just finished this painting depicting the 1895 Americas cup trials between the new Herreshoff designed sloop "Defender" and the1893 cup defender " Vigilant". During the trials there was much aggravation between the two skippers , Charlie Barr helming Vigilant and Capt. Hank Haff of Defender, Defender went on to successfully defend the Cup against Valkyrie iii.
