The America's Cup defender Puritan is shown with her topmast and gaff topsail stowed, overtaking the British challenger Genesta in this quintessential yacht racing print. Mecray has skillfully painted the challenger laboring under too much sail for the wind conditions while Puritan surges ahead in the deciding race of the fifth defense of the America's Cup in 1885.
