REF : 0 EDITION : 1871 DATE : 1871 COURSE : 0 DESCRIPTION SITE : Oil on canvas 26” x 36” (66 cm x 91.5 cm) This image shows the 1871 America's Cup defender Columbia close hauled on starboard tack under 4 working lowers; flying-jib and jib-topsail. Her top- hamper carries fore and main gaff topsails and a large fisherman staysail. Off Columbia's stern; a second schooner; this with a white hull and more of a 'fisherman' type in appearance; sails downwind in the opposite direction.
